Luanda – At least 55 cultural agents were distinguished this Friday, in Luanda, by the Provincial Government, in the ambit of the commemoration of the National Culture Day, marked on 08 January.
The distinction - which also happens in the ambit of the celebrations of the 50th National Independence, to be marked this year (11 Nov) – serves to recognise the contribution, value and preservation of the Angolan cultural environment.
Diplomas of Merit were awarded to personalities like Boaventura Cardoso, Rosa Cruz e Silva, Manuel Sebastião, Luísa Fançony, Mena Abrantes, Prado Paim, Elias Dya Kimuezo, Carlos Lamartine, Joãozinho Morgado, Os Tunezas, Sidónio e Lembinha, Duo Canhoto, Santoca, Euclides da Lomba, Kayaya Júnior, Afonso Quintas, Dj Paulo Alves, Rosa Roque, Calabeto, Ana Clara Guerra Marques, Don Caetano, Calado Show among others.
During the opening ceremony of the event, the vice governor of Luanda for socio-political matters, Manuel Gonçalves, in a year of independence jubilee the government decided to honour artists that have made contributions to the national culture, having disclosed that this type of gesture continue throughout the current year.
Meanwhile, choreographer Ana Bela Guerra Marques, linked to the art of dance since the age of 8, thanked the organisers for the recognition of her work, stressing the importance of the moment for her company.
The comedian Cesalty Paulo explained that this is a significant moment for the Tuneza (the humour group he is part of), adding that the distinction reflects the good work his group has been doing.
On his turn, writer and dramatist Mena Abrantes said the moment was gratifying, stressing that he feels compensated for the work he has been doing for Angolan theatre and literature.
The National Culture Day (08 January) was instituted in 1986.
