Lucusse - Eighteen tons of rice will be harvested in the municipalities of Luena and Lucusse, in the Province of Moxico, as part of the seed multiplication project for this cereal, which has the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

This project was implemented in two locations, namely in Sacassange location in Luena and Luconha in Lucusse, where five thousand square meters of seeds of this cereal were planted.

Speaking at the harvest launch ceremony, which took place in the location of Luconha, 180 kilometers south of Luena, the head of the department of the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture, Benjamim José, said that the project aims to increase the quantity of seeds of this cereal, with a view to, in the near future, once again making Moxico become the largest rice producer in the country.

He said that the seeds collected will be distributed to agricultural cooperatives in the region over a period of five years.

In turn, the head of the provincial department of the Institute for Agrarian Development (IDA) in Moxico, Eduardo Vieira, reiterated the continued technical support to farmers grouped in associations and cooperatives, mainly through field schools.

The official announced for the current month the implementation of the Development of Family Agriculture and Commercialisation (MOSAP III) project, which aims to improve food security and reduce poverty in rural areas, through the provision of better services and support for investment in the field.

The seed multiplication project that began in 2024 is an action supported by the JICA with a donation of the seed and has the technical and training support from the Institute of Agrarian Development (IDA).
