Luanda - Angola drew (1-1) with Libya, on Thursday (20) in Benghazi, with a goal by Fredy in the 90+3', in a match for the 5th round of the qualifying rounds for the FIFA 2026 World Cup to be played in the USA, Mexico and Canada.
With an intense first half, Angola missed two clear opportunities to score.
In the 19', Zini shot towards the side post and Gelson Dala, alone and with the goalkeeper beaten, missed the goal, at a time when Angola forced the Libyans back into defence.
The hosts, playing on the counterattack, also had a clear opportunity to score. A shot from very far away, in the 31', hit the post with Neblú completely beaten.
Trailing by one goal to nil (goal scored in the 73rd minute), the Angolans had to be resilient, even more so because the Libyans opted for anti-play on and off the pitch, with the ball boys failing to do their job.
At the extra, when defeat seemed inevitable, Angola equalized. From a free kick, captain Fredy scored to equalise the score (1-1).
With this draw, the national team remain 4th positioned, with 7 points and Group D is led by Cabo Verde (10 points), followed by Cameroon (9) and Libya (8).
The Seychelles Islands are in 5th place (4 points) and Eswatini in 6th and last overall (1 point).
The national team will play again on the 25th, starting at 5 pm, at the 11 de Novembro stadium, in Luanda.
