Lobito - The U.S. charge d'affaires, James Story, announced Thursday in Lobito that businessmen from the United States of America intend to invest at least 1 billion U.S. dollars in Angola's grain storage system.

The diplomat made the announcement after arriving by train from Huambo province, accompanied by 17 ambassadors, as part of a visit to the Lobito corridor.

“We will work in partnership not only with the Carrinho Group, but also with other companies here in Angola," the diplomat said.

According to him, Angola could be a benchmark for the region and the world.

James Story refuted rumors that the U.S. government would stop funding the Lobito Corridor projects, stressing that its presence shows that his country is interested in promoting prosperity for the Angolan people, the region and the world.

The diplomat spoke of the United States-Africa Summit to be held in Luanda in the next two months, which will be attended by more than 2,000 guests.

Rosario Bento, Ambassador of the European Union, on her turn, said the trip was an opportunity to demonstrate that the international community is in partnership with Angola for the development of the Lobito Corridor.

For two days, several ambassadors visited key sectors of the Lobito Corridor, encouraged by the US charge d'affaires in Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe, James Story. TC/CRB/DAN/AMP
