Luanda – The Angolan government is committed to adopting exceptional measures to increasingly boost agribusiness, as well as to increase production of basic goods in the country, said Saturday in the Province of Luanda, the secretary of State for Economy, Ivan dos Santos.
While opening the 2nd edition of the Angolan Agribusiness Forum, the official highlighted the strengthening of financial and fiscal incentives for agribusiness players as key elements which might boost this activity in Angola and keep it on the path to social and economic growth.
The official informed that the current world economic status presents countless challenges which demand the creation of exceptional strategies to ensure greater fiscal flexibility in the country without jeopardising the state's ability to raise revenue and implement its expenditure portfolio.
He added that the aim is to reduce the impact of one of the great ills affecting the national economy, the country's excessive dependence on imports of consumer goods.
Ivan dos Santos recalled that the Angolan government is open to receive private investments by making available mechanisms which can facilitate the holding of businesses being aware that it should be a process which requires time and solidity in order to resist external, political and economic shocks.
At the time, Ivan dos Santos recognised that agribusiness has been the main promoter of the diversification of the Angolan economy, having increased its share of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from 57% in 2011 to around 75% in 2022.
The government official said that with this process it is possible to consider agribusiness a strategic factor in its most different domains such as agriculture, cattle breeding, forestry, fisheries and aquaculture, as well as the trade and distribution of agricultural services.
He also emphasised the progress of the process related to the diversification of the country's economy, which has gone from 1% in 2019 to 5% in the last three years, with an emphasis on agro-industry.
Regarding the forum, the secretary of State for the Economy considered it to be of fundamental importance as it represented a space for debating constructive and innovative ideas aimed at strengthening the agribusiness sector in Angola.
During the event, which was promoted by the Angolan company Zambeca International Business, the participants discussed the topics such as "The industrialisation of agribusiness in Angola", "The power of self-responsibility in agribusiness", "Creativity and innovation for the industrialisation of agribusiness", "Rural community work for the promotion of Angolan agribusiness", among others.
The respective topics were addressed by distinguished national and foreign agricultural specialists and entrepreneurs, such as economist Filomena Oliveira, businesswoman Paula Bartolomeu, master coach Vera Neia and marketing and political strategy specialist Edgar Leandro.
