Luanda - President João Lourenço on Thursday highlighted the importance of the Constitutional Court (TC), as it plays a "very decisive role" in the validation of electoral acts.
For the Head of State, who was speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of two new female judges of the TC, this institution has great responsibilities, since it is the one that swears in the President of the Republic when he is elected in all electoral processes every five years.
According to the President, the TC also verifies the lists and candidacies presented for the general elections of the country for certain political positions, ensuring that they comply with the legal and constitutional requirements.
He recalled that the TC is also tasked with validating the elections themselves by reviewing any appeals filed by competing parties and their respective candidates.
"Therefore, I ask you to take into account the importance of the body to which you belong," said the head of the Executive Branch, who swore in Amélia Varela and Emiliana Quessongo as judges advising the Constitutional Court.
João Lourenço pointed out that the two judges were well chosen, and he believes that they will not disappoint the hopes of those who have placed their trust in them.
In Angola, the Constitutional Court is the highest body of constitutional jurisdiction and is the institution responsible for safeguarding the Constitution, ensuring that the laws, acts and decisions of State bodies are in conformity with it.
