Lubango – At least 2,692 producers from the municipalities of Caluquembe, Humpata, Chibia, Gambos, Cacula are being provided with agricultural inputs by the Rural Development and Environmental Action (ADRA) based in Huíla and Namibe Province, to increase production levels in the current agricultural campaign.
This act is part of the organization's Sustainable Local Development Program, in the Agricultural production and food and nutritional security component, according to the NGO's project assistant, Anastácia Tchilete.
Speaking on Thursday to ANGOP, in Lubango City, without giving figures, the activist highlighted that the support consists of cereal seeds, legume seeds, sweet potato and cassava seedlings.
Anastácia Tchilete highlighted that the objective, in addition to empowering producers with the delivery of inputs, is above all to empower and influence these producers to increase their production areas, in order to raise productivity levels.
She explained that in the case of cereals, the forecast is to increase from 700 kg per hectare to 1,000 kg for tubers, while for roots, from 2,500 kg to 4,000 kg per hectare and for legumes, from 700 kg to 1,000 kg during the current year.
According to Anastácia Tchilete, the idea is to take advantage of the second phase of the agricultural campaign until the first season of 2025/2026.
Regarding farming production, the official explained that ADRA will support 1,603 farmers through technical training, exchanges and others, as well as 260 cattle breeders who will benefit from veterinary assistance from the rural veterinary agents.
According to her, this year, 215 families are also expected to receive assistance with supplies and training, so that they can eat three meals a day, instead of just one or none at all.
