Independence Anniversary - Angola hosts international gymnastics tournament

Luanda - The Angolan Gymnastics Federation (FAG) will host an international tournament from the 13th to the 19th of the current month, at the Kilamba Multipurpose Pavilion in Luanda, as part of the festivities of the 50th anniversary of National Independence.

In addition to Angolans, the event, which will be held for the first time in the country, will have representatives from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Portugal and Brazil in the disciplines of Tumbling and Rhythmic, in junior and senior categories.

The FAG's deputy-president, João Gabriel, who confirmed the information to ANGOP on Wednesday (9), indicated that the delegations will arrive in Luanda from the 13th and that the technical meeting will take place on the evening of the same date.

He said that the federation's objective is to improve the athletes' records, provide competitive training, as well as the mass promotion of the sport.

The National Team is made up of 37 athletes, with emphasis on Luana Gomes, 2024 African champion, in Rwanda.

In the Rhythmic category, the country will also participate with Aysha Morgado, Elizabeth Mangundo, Ludmila Segunda, Florência Missende, Celma Nunda, Laurinda Tito, Hebo Monteiro, Leonora Moke and Domingas Piedoso.

In Tumbling, the senior women's class is composed of Julmira Segunda, Adelaide dos Santos, Massoji Canhanga, Angelina Elias.

In the men's category, they will be Assér António, Repente Magalhães, Pedro Lucupuepua, Elistidi Ngonga and Salomão Mateia.

In juniors, Angola will compete with Brígida Gouveia, Domingas Sancuma, Ariana Pires, Jecira Manuela, Angelina Madolo, Camila Pereira, Josefina Manuel, Fátima Lelo and Sandra Gomes.

Angola National Independence was achieved on 11 November 1975. As part of the festivities, the Angolan Government, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, tasked the National Federations with organising African competitions and international tournaments.

The planned activities include an African MMA Championship, wheelchair basketball for both sexes, Jiu-jitsu, swimming, cycling, athletics and a football friendly match between Angola and Argentina.
