Luanda – Eleven countries have been confirmed for the 8th Edition of the African Amateur Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Championship, which will take place from May 4 to 10 of the current, at the Kilamba Arena, in Luanda.

According to a note from the event's organization committee, affiliated with the Angolan Federation of the sport (FAMMA), the competition, which is also part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Angola national independence, will feature, in addition to the host, countries such as Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Republic of the Congo, Namibia, DRC, Mauritius, South Africa, Zambia, Algeria and Cameroon.

Angola is participating with 108 athletes officially registered on the SmoothComp platform, which demonstrates the growth of the modality in the country.

According to the note, Angolan athletes will be distributed across several categories and age groups, from youth, juniors, seniors and masters, with the aim of revalidating the competition.

It's the second time that Angola hosts the competition after 2023, and in the same venue.

This year, Angola increased the number of athletes participating in the event, 108, given that in the 2024 edition, in Windhoek (Namibia) there were only 27 athletes’ representatives.
