Luanda-The National Agency of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) and Total Energies Angola began, Monday, in the city of Natong (China), the conversion work of the future floating unit of production, storage and transfer of crude oil (FPSO), named Kaminho.

An ANPG note to which Angop had access to, it is a significant milestone that represents the first development in the new Kwanza basin, a new oil and gas source for Angola.

The Kaminho FPSO will be linked to an underwater network that will produce the discoveries of Cameia and Dolphin fields, with expected production of about 70,000 barrels of oil/day, being the budgeted investment value by six billion dollars, announced on May 20, 2024.

The beginning of production is scheduled for 2028.

The conversion starter ceremony was chaired by ANPG's executive administrator Ana Miala, who stressed that the unit, with the capacity to store one million and 600,000 barrels of oil, will have an advanced technology component with high standard of quality, health, safety and environment.

He added that with the FPSO, the agency will reinforce the production capacity and consolidate the strategic view of ensuring the continuity of oil activity in the country.

In turn, Sonangol's chairman of the Board of Directors, Gaspar Martins, has increased that this investment opens the way to new geographies and bring more investments in this new basin.

The country manager of TotalEnergies Angola, Martin Deffontaines, stressed that Kaminho is the 7th Floating Crude Oil Production, Storage and Offloading Unit in the country, which uses the latest state-of-the-art technology to adapt to the production portfolio with low greenhouse emissions in the atmosphere.

The event, which took place during the ship's dry dock, was attended by senior officials from ANPG, Sonangol, TotalEnergies, Saipem and CMHI, companies contracted for the conversion. ACC/QCB/DOJ
