Luanda - Angolan Handball Federation (FAAND) announced Thursday the national senior men's pre-selected team to compete in the African Handball Championship, to be held from July 8 to 18, in Egypt, ANGOP has learnt.
The preparation work starts on June 1, at the Cidadela Sportive pavilion in Luanda, country’s capital.
The team is led by José Pereira "Kidó" and William de Almeida as assistant coach.
According to the draw held Thursday by the Confederation of African Handball, Angola has been included in group D.
Group A-Cameroon, Morocco and Egypt,
Group B Guinea, Gabon, Kenya and Algeria,
Group C Nigeria, Tunisia and Cape Verde,
Group D Angola, DRC, Senegal and Zambia.
Pre-team:
goalkeepers - Geovani Muachissengue, Custódio Gouveia and Ariel da Silva
pivot - Gabriel Teca, Jaroslav Aguiar, José Chicola and Aguinaldo Tati
Central - Cláudio Lopes, Manuel Nascimento and Valdemiro Paulo
Right winger - Cláudio Chicola and Ariel Sousa
Left winger - Adilson Maneco and Mayomona Panzo
Right Back - Adelino Pestana, Feliciano Coveiro and Edgar Abreu
Left side - Mário Tati, Declerk Sibo, Elias António, Divaldo Ferreira and Ruben José.
Angola have six participations in African competitions between 1985 and 2018, having won three silver medals, the last one in 2004, after a 31-30 victory over Algeria.
Two years later Angola ended up in the fourth position, having lost 25-26 to Morocco, and in 2014 the squad were fourth again, when they fell against Egypt (31-24).
The team were afterwards third placed fruit of the victory over Algeria by 25-19, the same position achieved in 2018, after beating Morocco by 29-26.
