Luanda - The Speaker of the National Assembly Carolina Cerqueira on Tuesday called for joint efforts to create common policies that support the population and, above all, generate wealth for the well-being of communities.
Speaking to the press before travelling to Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, to take part in the meeting of the parliaments of the G20 countries, Carolina Cerqueira underlined the initiatives of the government and the efforts of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, not only for Angola, but for the peace process in the southern region.
The leader of the Angolan parliament added that she will take the opportunity to continue to place the Angolan parliament on the agenda of major regional and world issues.
Carolina Cerqueira spoke of the need to raise awareness of climate change, to combat the effects of the energy, environmental and political crises created and fuelled by armed conflicts.
For Carolina Cerqueira, a planet can only be sustained in a climate of peace, in an environment favourable to international cooperation, fraternity between peoples, peace, harmony and development.
Carolina Cerqueira said the event will also be attended by UIP president Túlia Aksha and other leading figures, who will be discussing an agenda linked to demonstrations and initiatives that parliamentarians can develop to help mitigate the effects of climate change, social instability and political instability.
The event, which will take place under the slogan ‘Parliaments for a Just World and a Sustainable Planet’, is expected to promote debates on issues related to the fight against hunger, poverty and inequality, the promotion of socio-environmental development and a just and inclusive ecological transition, as well as the construction of global governance adapted to the challenges of the 21st century.
The parliamentarians will also have to reflect and dialogue on how parliaments can help define policies that guarantee the population's food and nutritional security.
Created in 2010, the group of parliaments from the world's richest countries, called the P20, will debate proposals that help contribute to global issues.
The P20 works to guide governments through inter-parliamentary co-operation and the exchange of information.
The 10th Summit is a joint event between the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies and the Brazilian Senate and is organized in partnership with the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
With two-thirds of the planet's population, the G20 accounts for 85 per cent of the world's gross domestic product and 75 percent of international trade.
