Luau - At least four people of the same family died and seven were seriously injured in the municipality of Luau, in the eastern province of Moxico, as a result of a fire that occurred Thursday in the victims' home, ANGOP has learned.
According to witnesses, the incident occurred in the Chissala neighborhood, on the outskirts of Luau, when the family was surprised by the spread of the fire, allegedly caused by 60 liters of fuel stored inside the house.
Four of the survivors, the father, mother and two children, with first- and third-degree burns, are being treated at Luau's General Hospital, while the remaining members of the family have decided to seek medical attention in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
According to the doctor on duty at Luau General Hospital, George Silva, the clinical condition of the hospitalized patients is stable.
In light of the incident, the Luau Municipal Administration said in a statement that conditions are being created to provide assistance to the affected family and called on residents to avoid storing fuel inside their homes.
Data shows that this is the third case of fire caused by storing fuel in homes in the last three years.
The community of Luau, with a population of more than 11,000, is located more than 200 kilometers north of Cazombo, the provincial capital of eastern Moxico. MT/TC/HD/AMP
