Luena – The director of the provincial Education Office in the eastern province of Moxico, Valeriano Chimo Cassauie, reported on Wednesday (9) in Luena City that a total of 70 classrooms will be built in this region with funding from the Catoca Mining Society.
According to the official, who was speaking to the press, there are a total of 5 schools with 14 classrooms each, which could reduce the lack of teaching units in the region.
He assured that the aforementioned project is planned for this year, within the framework of the social responsibility of this diamond mining company.
In addition to the construction, he said that the Catoca Mining Society could rehabilitate primary schools in the province that are in a considerable stage of degradation.
At the beginning of the current 2024/2025 academic year, it was estimated that more than 80,000 children were left out of the education system throughout the province of Moxico due to a lack of classrooms.
The province has more than 100 schools built, mostly primary schools, however data indicates that Moxico lacks more than 800 classrooms to meet demand.
Currently, Moxico still has 176 classroom construction projects that have been halted for more than a decade due to an alleged lack of financial resources.
