Angola records 175 new cases of cholera in the last 24 hours

Luanda - One hundred and seventy-five new cases of cholera were reported in the last 24 hours from the the provinces of Benguela, Bengo, Cuanza-Norte, Luanda, Malanje, Icolo and Bengo, Huíla, Huambo and Cabinda.

According to the Ministry of Health (Minsa) newsletter, which updates cholera cases in Angola, in the last 24 hours eight deaths were also recorded, being four in Benguela, three in Cuanza-Norte and one in Icolo and Bengo.

Of the 175 new cases reported, according to the report, 66 are from Benguela, 28 from Bengo, 23 from Cuanza-Norte, 21 from Luanda, 17 from Malanje, 12 from Icolo and Bengo, five from Huíla, two from Huambo and one from Cabinda.

During the period in question, 122 people were discharged from hospital and 1,225 cholera patients are currently hospitalized across the country.

Since the beginning of the outbreak in January this year, a cumulative total of 12,368 cases have been reported, being 4,997 in Luanda, 2,822 in Bengo, 1,407 in Benguela, 1,311 in Cuanza-Norte, 982 in Icolo and Bengo, 407 in Malanje, 126 in Cuanza-Sul, 105 in Cabinda, 59 in Zaire, 58 in Namibe, 36 in Huambo, 29 in Huíla,  15 in Uíge, 10 in Cubango, two in Bié, while Cunene and Lunda-Sul one each.

There were 473 deaths from the beginning of the outbreak, of which 184 in Luanda, 111 at Bengo, 60 in Benguela, 56 at Cuanza-Norte, 28 in Icolo and Bengo, 16 in Malanje, 10 in Cuanza-Sul, three in Zaire, equal number in Cabinda and two in Namibe.  MCN/MRA/DOJ
