Luanda – Angola’s First Lady Ana Dias Lourenço participated on Saturday, in Luanda, in a walk against breast, prostate and cervical cancer, promoted by the National Bank of Angola (BNA).
The march, which was attended by about two thousand people, aimed to alert the population and disseminate information about the prevention and treatment of breast, prostate and uterine cancer.
The event, held in partnership with the Capital Markets Commission (CMC), the Angolan Insurance Regulation and Supervision Agency (ARCEG) and several banking institutions, took place simultaneously in the provinces of Moxico, Malanje, Cuando Cubango, Benguela, Cabinda, Huíla, Huambo and Uíge.
At the end of the walk, the First Lady delivered basic necessities and medicines to the National Oncology Center.
On the occasion, the deputy governor of the BNA, Maria de Fontes Pereira, said that the walk reflects the commitment of workers in the financial sector in the fight against breast, prostate and cervical cancer.
'We want to be in solidarity with this cause and help raise awareness by carrying out activities in the months of 'Pink' October and 'Blue' November, to fight breast and prostate cancer, respectively', she stressed.
She also mentioned that the walk also aimed to pay tribute to the nurses who raised awareness about the importance of preventing the diagnosis of these diseases.
'Annually in the months of October and November, walks are held in order to awaken society about the risk factors of breast, cervical and prostate cancer, its consequences, treatment and forms of prevention', she said.
According to the deputy governor of the BNA, campaigns of this kind are an opportunity to address and share information about the challenges faced by patients and their families.
The walk, the second promoted by the organization, took place under the motto 'Financial sector the color changes, the struggle does not'.
Pink October is an awareness campaign, created in the 1990s. Its main objective is to alert women and society about the importance of prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer, aims to celebrate October 30, World Breast Cancer Day
In Blue November, campaigns are carried out by several entities aimed at society and, in particular, men, to raise awareness about male diseases, with an emphasis on prevention and early diagnosis of prostate cancer. JAM/ASS/DOJ
