Rio de Janeiro - The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, arrived Sunday in the city of Rio de Janeiro, to participate in the 19th G20 Summit, which will take place from the 18th to the 19th of November.
The Angolan President, accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, heads a delegation made up of the Minister of State for the Economic Area, José de Lima Massano, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, among other assistants of the Executive branch.
The forum will bring together 55 delegations from 40 countries and 15 international organizations at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM).
Still this Sunday afternoon (local time), the statesman will have a meeting with his Brazilian counterpart, Lula da Silva, a moment to be used to take stock of cooperation and put forward bilateral relations.
For the G20 Summit, on the first day, as a guest observer, João Lourenço will speak on the topic “The Global Alliance to Combat Hunger and Poverty”, of which Angola became a founding member.
João Lourenço will also speak on the second day of the session, dedicated to the “Energy Transition”, and will participate in the Leaders' Declaration, which has been negotiated throughout the year of the Brazilian presidency.
The G20, created in 1999, comprises the eight countries considered the richest and most influential in the world (the G8), namely Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and Russia.
These are joined by 11 emerging countries, which are South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, South Korea, India, Indonesia, Mexico and Turkey, with permanent status.
The group is joined by the European Union and the African Union, which became permanent at the last summit held in India, in September 2023, with the aim of emphasizing Africa's voice and influencing decisions on key issues on the agenda. of the G20.
During Brazil's mandate, more than 130 meetings were held in the cities of Belém, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Cuiabá, Fortaleza, Foz do Iguaçu, Maceió, Manaus, Natal, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, São Luís, São Paulo and Teresina, in preparation for the summit.
In these sessions, always as an observer, Angola participated in those of G20 Foreign Ministers, Finance and Central Bank Governors, as well as Climate.
For her part, the President of the National Assembly (AN), Carolina Cerqueira, participated in the 10th Summit of the Presidents of the G20 Parliaments, while another delegation took part in the 1st Meeting of Women Parliamentarians of the P20, a forum for the G20 Legislative Branch.
In turn, Hélder Pitta Gróz, spoke at the opening of the G20 Attorneys General Summit, where he expressed Angola's alignment with the international policy of combating Transnational Organized Crime and Promoting Environmental Sustainability. ADR/ART/DOJ
