Hanoi - The Angolan authorities intend to attract Vietnamese investors to the Angolan market to invest in the agribusiness sector, and transfer the experience in the sector over the last few years.
The desire was expressed on Tuesday, in the Vietnamese capital, by the secretary of the MPLA Political Bureau (BP) for International Affairs, Manuel Augusto, during the meeting held with the deputy minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, Nguyen Quoc Tri.
According to the MPLA's BP secretary, it is not up to the party to execute socio-economic policies, but as the party in power, it has the duty to seek the best paths and present them to the government for their implementation.
According to Manuel Augusto, the improvement of the business environment in Angola, as a result of the measures adopted by the executive led by President João Lourenço, political and social stability, a mostly young population and the climate similarity between Angola and Vietnam, make the country in a strategic market, with the capacity to match the numbers achieved by the Asian country, in terms of agricultural production.
The BP Secretary for Economic Policy, Maria Idalina Valente, recalled, apart from the Vietnamese, that Angola is part of two important regional organizations, which are the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and, through these, it will be possible to reach a universe of approximately 600 million consumers.
In turn, the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Agriculture said that the sector is responsible for 12% of GDP and represents 30% of employment in the country, which has around 100 million inhabitants. In 2023, Vietnam exported the equivalent of US$60 million, in agricultural products alone.
Before the meeting, Manuel Augusto and the delegation visited the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, where he laid a wreath in honor of the historic leader and signed the book of honor.
Subsequently, the delegation also held meetings with the deputy-Chair of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV), Nguyen Thi Thi, and with the Minister of Education and Training, Nguyen Kim Som.
Vietnam was the 2nd country in the world to recognize Angola's independence.
Political-diplomatic relations date back to November 12, 1975. The two countries signed the General Cooperation Agreement, a legal instrument through which the two governments drew up guidelines on the type of relationship that was established in all areas.
Angola and Vietnam maintain initialed cooperation protocols in the sectors of Oil, Education, Health, Agriculture, Science and Technology, as well as in the area of Commerce, Industry and Business.
