Ramiros - The Minister of the Interior, Manuel Homem, highlighted on Monday, in Luanda, the fight against fuel smuggling and illegal emigration as a priority in his new challenge at the institution.
Manuel Homem made this statement at the handover ceremony, at the Higher Institute of Police Sciences “Osvaldo Serra Van-dúnem”, in the presence of the Minister of State and head of the Military House of the President of the Republic, Francisco Furtado.
According to Minister Manuel Homem, “for the success of this commitment, we intend to count on the maximum collaboration of the Criminal Investigation (SIC) and Migration and Foreigners services”.
Manuel Homem also presented as a priority the fight against diamond mining and illegal logging, in addition to improving the police infrastructure, so that they have greater rigor and performance in their activities.
He also spoke about improving public security, calling for greater dialogue and collaboration between the police and citizens, humanization and modernization of services, as well as special attention to organized crime.
In this context, the minister highlighted the need to continue investing in the professional and academic training of staff, improving health services, with the construction of new care centers with various specialties, the extension of the video surveillance system throughout the country, as well as the modernization of the public security system.
During his intervention, the new minister also pointed out the need for a special approach to the areas of Border Guard Police and Maritime Police, as essential areas for maintaining security and public order. Before those present, he also defended greater support for the Civil Protection and Fire Services (SPCB).
In turn, the outgoing minister, Eugénio Laborinho, expressed his willingness to collaborate with the current incumbent so that the outlined projects can be implemented.
The Minister of State and head of the Military House of the President of the Republic, Francisco Furtado, asked for the collaboration of the commission officers and superiors of the National Police (PN) so that the goals set by the new minister can be achieved.
Manuel Homem was appointed by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, on October 31st as the new Minister of the Interior, replacing Eugénio Laborinho.
