Ondjiva – At least 124 foreign citizens left the Angolan southern province of Cunene in the second quarter of this year due to the irregular migratory situation.
There was a decrease of six illegal immigrants repatriated by Migration Department (SME) in Cunene compared to the previous period in 2022, the body’s spokesperson Isomar Matias has said.
Speaking to ANGOP, Isomar Matias said this number include 117 from Namibia, two (Ethiopia) while Syria, Eritrea, China, Somalia and Brazil with one each.
He also said in the same period, SME conducted 472 inspections in all municipalities in the province to curb and combat the illegal immigration and associated crimes.
On the other hand, the source added that 176 Angolans were returned from Namibia due to irregular situation.
The SME in Cunene controls 713 foreign citizens with work visas, temporary stay visas, residents, convicts, detainees and asylum seekers. PEM/LHE/OHA/CF/NIC
