Luanda – The minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Paula Regina Simões, Friday in Luanda reiterated the Executive's commitment to fostering scientific and technological culture and strengthening higher education institutions in order to facilitate their autonomy and recognition.
She was speaking at a seminar at the Luanda Science Centre, as part of the 49th anniversary of national independence, to be marked on the 11th of this month.
The minister said that strengthening higher education involves open and inclusive collaboration with Angolan and international institutions.
Accoording to the Higher Education minister, strengthening the education subsystem ensures that the country absorbs the best practices in education and science.
She guaranteed that the government is committed to successfully fulfilling its mission of promoting science and higher education, for the well-being of society as a whole.
‘Science plays a central role in the progress of societies, because by generating knowledge and understanding, it offers the tools to face today's complex economic, social and environmental challenges,’ he explained.
She also said said for scientific and technological development to have an impact on the country's dynamics, it is essential that citizens be prepared to participate in crucial decisions for the future, relying on the growth of higher education institutions and the strengthening of the national science, technology and innovation policy,.
She recalled that although schools and universities are privileged places for introducing science, other institutions, such as digital libraries and science centres, play a fundamental role in disseminating scientific and technological knowledge.
