Luanda – Angolan head of State João Lourenço Friday in Luanda urged the newly elected judges of the Constitutional Court to abide by the law and the Constitution of the Republic.
The President made the appeal at swearing in ceremony of the Counsellor judges of the Constitutional Court Victória Manuel da Silva Izata and Victorino Domingos Hossi.
Both judges were elected at the National Assembly.
Victória da Silva Izata, will also hold the position of the vice president of the Constitutional Court, under the proposal of the Parliamentary group of the ruling MPLA party to fill the vacancy left by judge Guilhermina Contreiras da Costa Prata, who retired from the position.
Victorino Hossi was proposed by opposition UNITA party’s Parliamentary group.
Angolan Statesman hopes that the actions of judges will always take into account the compliance with the Law and the Constitution of the Republic.
The Constitutional Court comprises eleven judges appointed among jurists and magistrates.
Four (4) judges appointed by the President of the Republic, including the President of the Court.
Four elected by the National Assembly by a two-thirds majority of the Deputies in office, including the deputy President of the Court.
Two elected by the Superior Council for the Judiciary and one judge selected through a public tender.
Counselor judges are appointed for a non-renewable term of seven years and enjoy the guarantees of independence, immovability and impartiality of judges of other courts.
