Luanda – Angola’s ambassador to the United States Agostinho Van-Dúnem on Thursday highlighted the important role the Angolan parliament and the United States (US) Congress play in strengthening bilateral relations.
According to a press release that reached ANGOP, the diplomat's point of view was presented during a working meeting with Republican congresswoman Ms Young Kim, which served to assess the level of cooperation between the two countries' parliament.
Following the meeting with the congresswoman, who is also a member of the US Senate Subcommittee on African Affairs; the Angolan diplomat said the parties concluded that relations between Angola and the US are at their highest point.
The meeting also served to present the Angolan government's policies on economic diversification, regional security and political stability, strengthening democracy and respect for human rights.
The ambassador expressed his intention to make these meetings regular, so that the US authorities can get to know the Angolan reality.
Angola and the US signed a strategic partnership agreement in 2010 and cooperate in various areas, particularly trade, finance, energy, manufacturing, security, health and justice.
Angola exports oil and diamonds to the US and buys food, oil sector equipment and various types of machinery from the US.
Angola is the US's third largest trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa, mainly due to oil exports.VIC/MRA/AMP
