Luanda - Angola’s Cabinet Council (CM) approved the name Dr. António Agostinho Neto for the official designation of the new airport under construction in Bom Jesus in Icolo e Bengo Municipality, Luanda.
In its press note released at the 5th Ordinary Session, chaired by the President João Lourenço, CM states that the assignment of the name Dr. António Agostinho Neto to the new international airport is a tribute the Angolan people pay to the country’s first president and national hero.
The document states that the CM also approved the name Paulo Teixeira Jorge International Airport for Catumbela Airport, in honour of the Angolan nationalist and diplomat, also deceased.
The session made occasional changes to the organic statute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The objective is to include the overseen bodies, namely the Venâncio de Moura Diplomatic Academy, the Institute of Angolan Communities Abroad and Consular Services and the National Committee for Regional Economic Communities.
The Cabinet created the Institute of Angolan Communities Abroad and Consular Services, in charge of ensuring the coordination and execution of consular activity and assistance to Angolan communities abroad.
Still in the field of foreign policy, the meeting approved agreements with the Republic of Serbia on visa-free service passports, political consultations and understanding between the Diplomatic Academies of the two countries.
The Session still approved the agreements with the Arab Republic of Egypt for the reciprocal insertion of visas in diplomatic, service or special passports, for the creation of the bilateral commission for cooperation in political consultations and between the respective diplomatic academies.
The meeting also recognized the Cuerama Foundation as a legal entity, whose purpose is to promote the development and support of initiatives of a cultural nature in the fields of education, health, environment and sports.
