Ndalatando - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, on Tuesday in Cuanza Norte Province carried out a visit to verify the level of execution of the works of the new water supply project to the city of Ndalatando.
Accompanied by the First Lady and members of the Government, João Lourenço received answers and toured the various areas of the new construction collection system at the municipal headquarters of Lucala, which is equipped with a pumping capacity of 17.700 cubic meters of water/day and which is expected to be completed in February 2025.
The project with a physical execution level of 96%, the aforementioned water system, under construction since September 2021, once completed should house 285 kilometers of network and will contribute to increasing the city's water distribution capacity of 15,000 for 30,000 home connections, as well as benefiting 214,000 consumers.
With water being collected 37 kilometers from the Lucala river, the project with funding from the World Bank (WB) is budgeted at USD 31.2 million and is being implemented by a Chinese company.
It is built on a modern technological basis and was designed to supply Ndalatando, the town of Lucala, as well as the places it will pass through. It has a collection of 600 cubic meters/hour, a treatment plant designed for 625 cubic meters/hour and a cast iron lift system measuring 32,785 meters long.
The project, which lasted three years, includes a high conduct water pipeline measuring 1,784 meters, from the intake to the treatment plant, a treatment reservoir measuring 3,500 square meters, a gravity pipeline measuring 7,494 meters long and a supported reservoir measuring 2,500 square meters. It has a technological treatment based on a system of pre-oxidation, decantation, filtration, disinfection, thickening and drying of sludge.
It was built by 270 workers, 83 percent of which were Angolan citizens.
The new Lucala water project represents a reinforcement for the current supply system in the city of Ndalatando, located seven kilometers from the Mucari river, with a production capacity of 3,518 cubic meters/day and which proved to be insufficient to meet the demand for more than 200,000 consumers in the capital of Cuanza-Norte.
This Tuesday, the President of the Republic, while completing his workday visit in the province, visited the fair of agricultural products grown by producers in the region. Of the products on display, highlights include beans, tomatoes, corn, onions, cassava, carrots, Trazela, pumpkin, pineapple, among others.
