Luanda – Angola’s ruling MPLA party said on Friday that the National Assembly will soon discuss the topic of Electoral Transparency, with a view to promoting a credible, transparent, universal and participatory process.
The leader of the party’s Parliament Group, Virgílio de Fontes Pereira, announced this to the press at the end of the Conference that gathered the presidents from the Parliamentary Groups.
He said the discussion, proposed by his party, will allow an approach the electoral process, enhancing the interventions of the authors with responsibilities in it, as well as the procedures established by law.
According to him, the MPLA wants a structuring, serious and responsible debate on the elections.
The politician defended peaceful debate among the opposition and some sectors of civil society, who continue to stick on electoral fraud story.
"The guarantee of a transparent electoral process has to be secured by everyone, as it is a condition of our country's credibility. So we are the main stakeholders in the electoral process taking place in a transparent way", he explained.
He stated that the proposal is intended, in an inclusive way, to address the problem of transparency to reassure the populations.
He said, for these and other reasons, the MPLA comes up with this proposal, underlining that the other parliamentary groups were welcomed.
However, the MP lashed out at the attempt by some parties to try to introduce other aspects in the approach to the aforementioned topic, without any formal connection with what was proposed by the ruling party.
He called for democratic, peaceful, urban, serious, realistic and patriotic debate.
The debate on electoral transparency takes place ahead of the fourth Ordinary Plenary of Parliament set for 21 April.
