Luanda - The vice-president of the ruling MPLA Parliamentary group, Vigílio Tyova, on Tuesday said the initiative to split Luanda has been favorably accepted by the locals.
According to the deputy, who presented his party’s Declaration of Vote at the National Assembly, the MPLA parliamentary group met with municipal and provincial consultation councils, which enabled it to learn about the citizens’ favorable position regarding the proposal.
The MP said more than 2,000 people participated in the public consultation, including representatives of political parties, churches, civil society and residents' committees that displayed a range of proposals.
Luanda province could be divided into a Coastal Region, with the exception of Cacuaco, and another that will include the municipalities of Icolo and Bengo, Cacuaco, Viana and a part of Quissama.
According to the MPLA's proposal, Luanda province will continue to be the country's capital, with the municipalities of Ingombota, Cacuaco (Cacuaco and Kikolo municipalities), Cazenga (Cazenga and Kima Kieza municipalities), Viana, Belas (Barra do Cuanza, Cabolombo and Ramiros municipalities), Kilamba Kiaxi, Talatona and Luanda.
The province of Icolo and Bengo would have seven municipalities and 11 communes, namely Icolo and Bengo, Quissama (with the communes of Muxima, Kixinje, Demba Xio and Mumbundo), Calumbo, Cabiri, Cabo Ledo and Bom Jesus and the municipality of Sequel.
Vigílio Tyova urged "Angolans to join the MPLA in this proposal, since the new law on the division of administrative policy focuses on the elevation of some localities to the category of municipalities to provide advantages and benefits as the main services will be closer to citizens ".
The MP underscored that stated the measure is expected to improve quality of life of the Angolan people thanks to a more careful implementation of public policies, which will contribute to the implementation of local authorities in the country. VIC/TED/AMP
