Lubango - The Huíla poultry producers cooperative will increase chicken production to 720 tonnes per year with international standards, through funding of 240 million kwanzas from the restructured Credit Support Programme (PAC), via Notice 10/22 from the National Bank of Angola (BNA).
Production currently stands at 40 tonnes per year. The funding from Banco Caixa Angola will cover 2.8 percent of Huíla's needs for the product, considering the average for the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The cooperative is producing 5,000 chickens every 45 days of the production cycle, totalling at least 40,000 per year, which is less than demand.
The province currently has 15 poultry farms, but only seven produce and has a consumption requirement of 25,500 tonnes per month, as opposed to the two produced.
Speaking to ANGOP Friday in Lubango, the president of the cooperative Miguel Kalandula António, said that in this first phase of the pilot project 20 members have been selected and each one will receive, in material, the equivalent of 12 million kwanzas.
