Ndalatando- The rain that fell on the city of Dondo, in the province of Cuanza Norte, on Sunday, destroyed the alternative passage to the bridge over the Capacala river, the Civil Protection and Fire Services reported on Monday.
It had been built to facilitate the reconstruction work on the main bridge, destroyed in 2021.
The situation forced the reopening of the bridge over the Capacala River, which has been under reconstruction since June last year and whose completion was scheduled for December of the same year, to allow road traffic.
The bridge, approximately 25 meters long and ten meters wide, was destroyed in May 2021 by rain, which also damaged the containment dike and the overflow of the Capacala River, cutting the connection between Luanda and the southern provinces, North and East of the country.
According to the spokesperson for the Civil Protection and Fire Services, Hélder Milagre, the rains also caused the partial destruction of the bridge over the Mucoso River, cutting off road traffic between Luanda and several provinces.
As consequences of the storm, the spokesperson also pointed out the flooding of a number, yet to be determined, of residences in three neighborhoods of the city.
