Malanje- The vice-mayor of Hampton (Virginia, United States), James Gray is since Wednesday in northern Malanje to prepare the ceremony to celebrate in August, the twinning agreement between Malanje and Hampton.
James Gray's trip to Malanje, in the company of members of the Tucker family and representatives of Sister Cities International-Hampton, follows an invitation made by the Malanje government after the first International Summit on Twin Cities was held on May 30 in San Antonio, Texas (United States of America).
During the meeting with the US delegation, Malanje governor, Marcos Nhunga, expressed his satisfaction with the contribution of the Tucker family (descendants of the first Angolan slaves taken to the USA) to the twinning process, which will bring many investors to the province.
In a brief presentation on Malanje's potential, the governor said the region is strong in tourism, mining, agriculture and livestock and others, which are in need of investment, and that cooperation between the cities would help revitalize these segments.
According to the governor, the province has a rich flora and fauna, thousands of hectares of arable land for the production of cotton, animal protein, grains and cereals and plenty of water, as well as reserves for the exploitation of diamonds, gold, iron, manganese, copper, iron and other minerals.
The governor cited the various tourist areas the province has and that need hotel, restaurant and leisure infrastructures to enable natural, historical, cultural and religious tourism.
The vice- mayor, James Gray, also acknowledged the commitment of the Tucker family in this process and that Malanje city is to become the fifth to be twinned in a 403-year journey since Hampton was founded.
James Gray said Hampton is committed to establishing this agreement, given the benefits for both cities.
Tucker family stepping stone to stimulate investment in Calandula
The descendants of the first Angolan slaves on American soil have once again visited Calandula municipality, with a view to establishing contacts that could make it possible for investors from that country to come to the area.
Members of the family and officials from the Angolan Institute for Tourism Development (INFOTUR) met with the local authorities on Wednesday 26 and highlighted the region's potential.
The municipality's administrative authorities highlighted the government’s strong commitment to attract investors, a premise that could contribute to raising more revenue for the state coffers. PBC/TED/AMP
