Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, defended, on Wednesday, the culture of peace and preventive diplomacy in Africa.

In his communication during the African Union Peace and Security Council, in virtual format, held within the framework of the Day of Peace and Reconciliation in Africa, João Lourenço noted that, in exercising his responsibilities as African Champion for Peace and Reconciliation, he has committed to 'searching for peaceful solutions to the different conflicts on the continent, permanently encouraging dialogue and promoting political consultation as a way to strengthen trust and build understanding between the opposing parties'.

João Lourenço took part in the event via an audio-visual message, in his capacity as African Union Champion for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa.

The African Day of Peace and Reconciliation was established by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), during the body's 16th Extraordinary Summit, held in May 2022, in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Government in Africa.
