Luanda - The bishopess of the Anglican Church of Angola and Mozambique Filomena Teta asked Angolans on Sunday in Luanda to promote continued social inclusion, justice and peace in the country.

'Christ's love is inclusive, sacrificial, and practical. Experiencing this love today, in Angola and in the world, means breaking with barriers of tribalism, social inequality, machismo and indifference,' she explained.

Filomena Teta, head of the Anglican Diocese of the Good Shepherd, led the celebration of Palm Sunday that marks the beginning of Holy Week, a memorial of the last days of Jesus Christ on earth.

The prelate asked Angolans to excel in love for others, even when they think differently, to take care of the most vulnerable, including widows, orphans, displaced people and the poor, and to work for reconciliation where there is division or conflict.

Looking back on the 23rd anniversary of the Memorandum for Peace and National Reconciliation, signed between the Government of Angola and UNITA, on April 4, 2002, Filomena Teta urged Angolans to always strive for peace and dedication to noble causes.

In her speech, the bishopess spoke of the humility that should be associated with simplicity, respect for the elderly, community service and the absence of ostentation, even when you have the resources to do so.

The religious leader said that humbleness also involves recognizing the contribution of all citizens, knowing how to listen to others and acting with love and wisdom.

She recalled that the Angolan people always value those who lead with their hearts, who walk with the people and not above them, because 'love is not just feeling, but concrete action'.

Filomena Teta defended the need for sharing that goes beyond donating material things, but also time, attention, affection, knowledge and faith that allows us to overcome all obstacles.

She said that in Angola, where many communities live with a shortage of diverse goods, sharing is an act of solidarity that sustains collective life.

'It is a Christian principle that strengthens the bonds between people and builds communities where no one feels alone or forgotten. Sharing is also recognizing everything we have and serving the common good', she stressed.

Regarding the hope of Angolans, she suggested that it should consist of the active faith that better days are possible, anchored in solidarity between brothers and sisters and the ability to rebuild with dignity, even after years of pain and struggles.

This hope, she added, is not just a passive wait, but a commitment to transformation based on justice, where everyone has access to their rights and impunity is overcome, in lasting peace with respectful coexistence between different ethnicities, classes and visions.

She also said that hope must also be based on development with equity, where the fruits of the land and work benefit all and not just a few, on youth who need opportunities, education and values to lead a new time and on the Church as a place of consolation, formation and prophetic action in the face of the country's challenges.

For Christians, Holy Week begins with the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, where, in addition to teaching in the temple, he held his last supper with the apostles, was arrested, condemned, crucified and killed. She was resurrected and ascended to Heaven, this more than two thousand years ago. Jesus Christ is the central figure of Christianity. AB/OHA/DOJ
