Luanda – Angola hosts the first meeting of the secretaries-general of the Great Lakes Parliamentary Forum (FP-ICGLR) in Luanda on Sunday. According to the deputy general coordinator of the event, MP Pedro Sebastião, the meeting will discuss issues related to the internal life of the institution.
The 15th Ordinary Plenary Session of the FP-ICGLR is being held under the theme "Inclusive Leadership in the Great Lakes Region" to analyse the political, security and humanitarian situation in the region.
Pedro Sebastião considered the event important as the region is facing numerous challenges related to military conflicts, political instability, social unrest and gender inequality, stressing that the FP-ICGLR will be preceded by several working committee meetings, such as the Executive Committee meeting, which will serve as an antechamber to the Conference of Speakers.
During the event, Angola will take over the rotating presidency of the organisation, replacing Zambia.
The Angolan state was officially invited to become a member of the organisation in January 2013 and joined the Forum in November 2014. LDN/VIC/TED/AMP
