Luanda – An Angolan delegation led by the minister of Finance, Vera Daves, will participate in the annual series of meetings of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which will take place from the 21st to the 26th of the current month, in Washington, USA.

The annual event brings together several entities that will discuss issues related to public and private finances, geopolitics, innovation and economic projections, as well as the adoption of the Global Economy's new measures.

The meeting, which will be attended by several Ministers of Finance, Central Bank Governors, academics and various global market players, will also serve to discuss and share macroeconomic information, measure global poverty and inequality, and analyse the global situation in order to identify innovative solutions and strategies.

The event's highlight is the meeting between the IMF's Monetary and Financial Committee and the World Bank's Development Committee.

Back in 2024, the spring meetings were held from April 11 to 16 in Washington, where Angola attended with the aim of reaching new financing agreements.

Created in 1944 at the Bretton Woods Conference, and having begun its operations in 1945, when 29 countries signed the international organization's founding agreement, the IMF currently has 189 member countries, including Angola, which has also been a member of the World Bank since 1989.

The World Bank Group, which also supports Angola's efforts to reduce poverty and promote economic growth, is an international financial agency belonging to the United Nations System, initially created in 1944 to assist economies destroyed by the Second World War.

Headquartered in Washington, the WBG is responsible for offering loans to poor and emerging countries, with the purpose of accelerating their growth and development, as well as supporting issues linked to economic policies.
