Moçâmedes - Zambia ambassador to Angola Lawrence Chalungumana, spoke of the need to stress the legacy of Agostinho Neto, as an example for the new generations of Angolans.
The diplomat said so Wednesday in Moçâmedes, south-west Namibe province, during a meeting that brought together 19 members of African diplomatic missions accredited in Angola, with the governor of Namibe, Archer Mangueira.
The diplomat considered Agostinho Neto a figure who should not be forgotten in view of his works done in benefit to Angolans, which include development in different sectors, such as agriculture and industry.
The diplomat also characterised the figure of Agostinho Neto as an African leader who always thought about the well-being of his people and the continent itself, having stood out in achieving national independence in 1975 and the unity of his country.
He said Agostinho Neto, during his lifetime, visited several countries where he met with some African leaders, such as Kannethe Kaunda (Zambia), Amílcar Cabral (Guinea-Bissau) and others, who very early focused on tackling issues related to the development of African countries, many of them are now independent.
“The best way to honour the figure of Agostinho Neto is, in fact, to strengthen relations with other independent African countries in order to become economically independent” he added.
The for-four day visit will enable the delegation of diplomats to tour various potentialities linked to the sectors of agriculture, industry, commerce, tourism and culture in Namibe.
Prior to the meeting, diplomats from the countries like South Africa, Algeria, Cabo Verde, Eritrea, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritania, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and Zambia visited a photographic exhibition that portrays the life and work of Agostinho Neto. FA/SCTED/NIC
