Luanda - A message from the President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, to his Ugandan counterpart, Yoweri Museveni, was delivered Monday, in Kampala, by the Foreign minister, Téte António.
According to a note to which ANGOP had access, President João Lourenço expressed his solidarity with the people and government of Uganda, as well as highlighted the deepening of bilateral and multilateral relations.
The note does not reveal the content of the message, but it indicates that the two countries shared concerns about issues of mutual interest with a focus on peace and security at regional and continental levels.
On the occasion, minister Téte António informed President Museveni about the progress made in mediating the conflict in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with emphasis on the entry into force of the ceasefire, since August 2024, as well as the adoption of the Harmonized Plan for the Neutralization of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) and the Demobilization of Forces and Lifting of security measures adopted by Rwanda.
The Ugandan statesman also received information about the holding of the next Tripartite Summit between Angola, DRC and Rwanda, scheduled for December 15, in Luanda, in which the Draft Peace Agreement presented to the Parties in August 2024 will be analyzed.
The issue regarding the conflict in Sudan was also among the strategic interests at the meeting between Angolan Foreign Ministry and the Ugandan president taking into account the Ah-Hoc Presidential Committee foreseen by the African Union (AU) and led by President Yuweri Museveni, whose objective is to seek a peaceful solution to the military conflict that has been ongoing in that African country since April 2023.
João Lourenço's message to his Ugandan counterpart was delivered in the presence of the director-general of the External Intelligence Services (SIE), Matias Bertino Matondo, the director for Africa, Middle East and Regional Organizations at Angolan Foreign Ministry, Jorge Cardoso and the Angolan ambassador to Uganda, Sianga Abílio.
Angola and Uganda are member states of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL) and has been maintaining contacts at the highest level on issues related to peace, stability and security in the region.
The two countries also maintain dialogue in regional and international forums such as the AU and the United Nations (UN), as well as exchange visits by different delegations to strengthen cooperation in various areas, including security, infrastructure and trade.
