Luanda - An awareness campaign on the matters related to the general elections has been underway since Thursday, as part of the preparation for polls scheduled for 24 August 2022.
Some 6,020 civic and voter education agents are involved in the campaign, sponsored by National Electoral Commission (CNE).
The campaign consists of holding meetings with the society players in various places such as cities, towns, villages, fields, markets and churches aimed at clarifying the stages of the election process.
The move is mainly intended to secure an active and conscious participation of the Angolan voters in the general elections.
According to the CNE, the campaign represents a mechanism for the right communication with the voters, who will be clarified on the importance of their participation in the polls and the need to exercise their right to vote freely.
Speaking at campaign launch ceremony, the CNE chairperson Manuel Pereira da Silva, requested the involvement of all social players in mobilisation of the citizens in order to reduce the abstentions among the voters in August 24.
In turn, the vice president of the ruling MPLA party Luísa Damião, praised the initiative, ahead of the process scheduled for 24 August.
“The country will conduct its fifth elections and that is why we think that the civic education is crucial for all the citizens. We intend to hold civic, fair and peaceful elections that make Angolans proud”, the politician has stressed.
