Luanda - The MPLA presidential candidate, João Lourenço, reiterated Sunday his commitment to improving the living conditions of Angolans and creating equal opportunities for all.
The MPLA leader made the pledge during its airtime on the Public Television of Angola (TPA) Sunday, in the ambit of the official campaign and the legal time allocated to the political forces to present their manifestos, with a view to enticing votes for the upcoming 24 July general elections.
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, which affected half of his mandate, Lourenço said the government managed to present "work and could do much more in the next mandate".
The candidate pointed out that the projects to fight drought in southern Angola are already solving the problem of thousands of citizens, having promised their continuity to benefit the provinces of Namibe and Huíla, after Cafu, which benefits more than 250 thousand people.
He also highlighted the health sector as another great programme to give more dignity to the users and professionals of the hospital units.
João Lourenço proposed to put an end to children out of the education system, at the same time that he seeks to improve its quality by investing in the training of teachers at all levels.
The MPLA presidential candidate assured that he wants to increase the supply of housing, although 14 satellite towns have been built during his mandate, benefiting 42,000 families.
The TPA programme showed images of the candidate beside his wife, Ana Dias Lourenço, whom he married 36 years ago.
The first lady said that the family tried to create a good environment at home for João Lourenço to face the challenges of governance.
Governance Programme
The MPLA proposes, in its governance programme, the consolidation of the democratic rule of law, reform of the State and fight against corruption and impunity.
The ruling party also pledges to promote balanced and harmonious development of the territory, decentralization of the public administration, municipalization of public services and implementation of local authorities.
The development of human capital, greater access to health services, knowledge and technical and scientific skills of the staff, promotion of culture and sports are other proposals of the MPLA for the next mandate, during which it also promises to stimulate entrepreneurship and innovation, reduce social inequalities, eradicate hunger and extreme poverty.
The MPLA will also continue to focus on gender equality and solve multidimensional and transversal challenges to improve the quality of life of the people.
Just over 14.3 million voters are expected to cast ballots this year in Angola, of whom 22,560 will vote abroad for the first time in the country's history.
Overseas voting will take place in 12 countries and 25 cities, located in Africa, Europe and South America.
