Luanda - Angola is participating in Kinshasa, DRC, in the first Regional Biennial for a Culture of Peace, an event organised by the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), in partnership with the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
According to participants, the first edition of the Regional Biennial for a Culture of Peace in Kinshasa, appears as an opportunity for political decision makers and peace promoters to reassess the design, approach and application of existing conflict management tools and systems in Central Africa.
In his intervention, Ambassador Sita José, Coordinator of the National Management Committee of the Luanda Biennale, talked about the history of the institutionalisation by the African Union of the Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence in January 2015.
Sita José recalled the main objective of the Biennale, which is to promote violence prevention and peaceful resolution of conflicts, through a multi players continental campaign, reinforced by the accession of the Global Alliance of Partners for the promotion of the Culture of Peace at the end of the 2nd edition held in Luanda from 27 to 30 November 2021.
The diplomat stressed the importance of African youth participation, who committed themselves to participate actively, based on the specific roadmap for the period 2021 to 2023.
On his turn, the President of ECCAS Commission, Gilberto da Piedade Veríssimo, stressed that the biennial aims to analyse the place of culture in the peace and security architecture of the region, as well as to propose the founding pillars of a multi-sectoral roadmap to silence weapons in Central Africa.
The Angolan delegation is headed by Ambassador Sita José, and includes José Octávio Serra Van-Dúnem, member of the Scientific Committee of the Luanda Biennale, among other officials.
