Ondjiva - The Cafitu I group won the first edition of the traditional dance competition held on Monday in Ondjiva, Cunene province, as a way to stimulate, disseminate, promote and preserve the cultural identity of the peoples.
The group of women in traditional odella garments, presented on stage dances that represent the culture of the Kwanhama people, with a monetary value of 50 thousand kwanzas.
In second and third were the women of Olukango and Ombala Grande, with prizes of 30,000 and 20,000 kwanzas.
Promoted by the Angolan Women's Organization (OMA), the cultural demonstration contest made it possible to demonstrate and elevate the cultural identity of the peoples of this region.
At the opening of the event, At the opening of the event, OMA’s secretary in Cunene, Vivência Ndalyewifa, said that the event was intended to publicize and promote groups from different communities, aiming at their emancipation.
She said that folk dances have great cultural importance, because they are vehicles for transmitting the habits and customs of different regions and tribes.
Vivência Ndalyewifa informed that the activity is part of the day of July 31, African Women's Day, and was also marked with a parade of African costumes and an exhibition of manufactured products, demonstrating the resilience of women in various aspects.
