Luanda – The Luanda Provincial Government (GPL), wants to make carnival in the capital city to be profitable and innovative with the aim to contribute for the improvement of social conditions of the groups particularly and of the families.
According to the vice-governor for the political and social sector, Manuel Gonçalves who was speaking in the 3th Provincial Meeting of the Luanda Carnival, to achieve this goal the event must remain original and the group must be more creative.
He added that to this, there should be given more attention to the originality of the group costumes, props, creativity of the songs and rhythm, the dances, plot, allegories, as well as the innovative impact of each parade.
“The country’s largest cultural event must keep pace with the dynamics of technological advances and the social and economic needs of its operators. Therefore, it is necessary to think of a sustainable and profitable Luanda Carnival, which must boost tourism, foster self-employment and family income through creative industries and the production of Carnival artefacts”, he stressed.
Therefore, the official in charge highlighted that the event came to improve the structuring of the entities responsible for its valorization and also of the groups, considering that they are the main actors that intervene for its occurrence, taking into account the impact on people's lives, from a social and economic point of view.
He added that the event also served for a dialogue and debate of several topics and critical reviews of the actions that have been implemented in the carnival allowing the creation of new mechanisms to sustain and support this popular festival.
“In general terms, holding the meeting will enable the discussion of methods and procedures for its implementation, defining strategies to facilitate greater participation of the business community in supporting the organization and execution of carnival. We also came together here to find strategies for the rescue of carnival dances such as Dizanda, Kabetula, Katutula, among others”, he added.
Entities from the Provincial Government of Luanda, heads of carnival groups, among other guests, attended the meeting, addressing topics related to innovation and the art of carnival, code of conduct and ethics.
The Provincial Association of Carnival of Luanda (APROCAL) controls more than 40 carnival groups.
The União Recreativo Kilamba group, with 898 votes, was the winner of class A of the 2023 edition of Luanda Carnival. JAM/MCN/MRA/DOJ
