Luanda – The presence of representatives from G7 countries and the operation of diamond traceability are two of the main new features that will dominate the 2nd International Diamond Conference of Angola, to be held on 23 and 24 October this year, in the province of Lunda-Sul.
According to the Secretary of State for Mineral Resources, Jânio Correa Victor, the presence of representatives from the group of seven most developed and industrialized countries in the world (G7 - Canada, United States of America, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany and
Japan) will make it possible to clarify the issue of diamond traceability in the world market, taking into account the sanctions imposed on Russia.
Speaking to the press on Monday, regarding the holding of the 2nd Diamond Conference, the leader said that the organization is working to bring one of the traceability machines for this mineral to this event, to demonstrate how it works.
On the occasion, Jânio Correa Victor stated that the conference aims, fundamentally, to demonstrate the potential of the diamond subsector and to present to potential investors the favourable business environment that the country is experiencing, with emphasis on legislation, the reduction of bureaucracy in licensing processes, the capacity of national human resources and the infrastructure created to develop mining activities.
He said that the Government intends to attract more national and foreign private investment, taking into account the existence of a vast area of mineral resources to be explored in Angola. He added that, in addition to attracting new investments, the conference will also have a scientific character, through the holding of lectures that will be given by researchers and technicians from major global companies in this sector.
On the other hand, the Secretary of State explained that holding the conference in the province of Lunda-Sul aims to give greater visibility to the Saurimo Diamond Development Hub (PDDS), an infrastructure built by the Angolan Government and inaugurated in August 2021, with the aim of bringing together companies focused on the diamond value chain, in an area of more than 300 thousand square meters.
Among several guests, he said that the highlights were ministers from producing countries in Africa, diplomats, representatives of the International Diamond Exchange, the World Diamond Council and other world-renowned individuals in the diamond industry.
The 2nd Angola International Diamond Conference comes three years after the first event of its kind was held in November 2021, in the same location.
The event will bring together experts and players from the mining industry, aiming to provide opportunities to continue building relations between companies and the Government, focusing on fostering dynamic discussions that stimulate technological innovation and economic growth. QCB/TED/DOJ
