Baku - The Climate Change Summit (COP29) starts on Tuesday the high-level debate, in which Angola is represented by Vice President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa.
The main theme of the meeting is the financing of climate projects to mitigate the emission of greenhouse gases and other measures, as underlined at the opening by the UN Secretary for Climate, Simon Stiell.
In his speech, he said that it is time to show that global cooperation is not stagnant.
He warned of the need for urgent global cooperation on climate change.
He defended the importance of agreeing on a new global climate finance target, having warned that if at least two-thirds of the world's nations cannot cut emissions quickly, then each nation will pay a brutal price.
'If nations fail to build resilience in supply chains, the entire global economy will be brought to its knees. No country is immune', he said, stressing that it is necessary to put an end to the idea that climate finance is charity.
'We need to move forward in mitigation, so that Dubai's goals are met,' he said.
For his part, the president of COP 29, Moukhtar Babaïev, said that 'COP 29 is a moment of truth for the Paris Agreement', underlining the need for much more from each of the nations present in Baku.
'COP29 is a moment of truth for the Paris Agreement,' said the new president of the UN Climate Change Conference, Mukhtar Babayev, who calls on the world to demonstrate that 'we are prepared to meet the goals we have set ourselves.'
'Climate change is already here, just look at the floods in Spain, the fires in Australia', said the president of the Climate Summit, according to which 'whether they see it or not, populations are suffering, they are dying in darkness and they need more than compassion, more than prayers or working documents. They are asking for leadership and action. FMA/ART/DOJ
