Moçâmedes - The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, António de Assis, said that in the last two years the southwestern Namibe province has been committed to agricultural production, giving positive results for the diversification of the country's economy.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of his five-day visit to Namibe province, the minister said that the focus is on boosting the crops that are being developed in the valleys and taking advantage of the existing natural potential to develop some cereal and legume crops
He also pointed out, the province is producing maize and millet as well as tomatoes, onions, garlic, sweet and reindeer potatoes, cabbage, eggplant, okra, carrots, watermelon, melon, lemon, orange, mango and others.
It should be noted that last year the province produced a total of 555,115 tons of various products, especially vegetables, which accounted for around 68% of production.
The process involves 48,125 farming families.
The governor will be carrying out an agenda that includes visits to agricultural and livestock production areas, the launch of the Motor Cultivator Programme, meetings with farmers and officials in the sector, visits to agricultural fields in the municipalities of Bibala and Moçâmedes, among other activities.
