Moçâmedes – over 5,000 foreign tourists visited the province of Namibe in 2023, for sport fishing, underwater, beach and sun tourism, as well as business, surpassing the year 2022, which recorded at least three thousand visitors.
Most of the tourists who visited this province are of South African, Portuguese, Namibian, Russian, Cuban, Vietnamese, Korean, Cape Verdean, English nationality, among others, according to the director of the provincial office of Culture, Tourism and Environment of Namibe, Pedro Hangula.
Speaking to ANGOP, he pointed to the months of January, February, March and December as 'peak' periods, with a greater flow of visitors, who took the opportunity for New Year's Eve.
Along with foreign visitors, the provincial director also highlighted the presence of more than 20,000 national tourists from different provinces of the country. In 2022, this figure was 10,000 excursionists.
According to Pedro Hangula, the geographical characteristics of the province and the welcoming way of the mucubal people, as well as the architectural beauty of the city have contributed, essentially, to the attraction of many visitors to Namibe.
Among the most visited tourist spots by foreign and national tourists, the source highlighted the beaches of Mariquita, Piambo, Soba, Vanessa, Vila Doroteia, the Namibe Desert, Yona Park, Montipa Hot Springs, Serra da Leba, Cave Paintings of Tchitunduhulu, among others, as the main places that receive most tourists.
He also said that business tourism has been growing in the last six months due to the projects that are underway in the province of Namibe, with emphasis on the requalification of the Moçâmedes Bay and the Mining Port of Saco-Mar, works that have motivated visitors to invest in catering and service provision.
He stressed that, this year, the province may attract more visitors interested in business tourism, taking into account the oil exploration project in the Namib Basin, which will probably start next February.
Currently, the province of Namibe has numerous tourist attractions, having listed 109 places for tourism. FA/QCB/DOJ
