Luanda – Angolan minister of Education, Luísa Grilo, on Monday in Luanda called for a greater investment in education for the development of humanity, as well as for the creation of a fairer, more equitable and prosperous future for all.
The minister was speaking at the opening ceremony of the training program for school managers, which will take place over ten days at the National Institute for Training of Education Staff, with 42 participants from Angola's 21 provinces.
According to her, education undoubtedly constitutes the main basis for the development of humanity and for this reason everyone involved in the process must invest in its quality.
She revealed that one of the fundamental factors that influence school effectiveness is the nature, type and quality of leadership that each director provides to the staff of the schools he or she manages.
In this regard, she reported that this training program aims to improve administrative pedagogical management in primary and secondary education institutions and technical and polytechnic institutes. It has three main phases, namely national, provincial and local.
Luísa Grilo informed that in total 8,231 school managers will be trained by 42 provincial trainers, taking into account that the managers are fundamental pieces in the organization of the educational process.
“We must have people in charge of our schools, especially now that there is a significant investment in terms of maintenance of school infrastructures, people who are capable of careful management, as well as creating a connection between all staff, parents and guardians,” she said.
Luísa Grilo reiterated the profile of a school manager, who must be trained in the area of education, as one that has to have at least five years of experience working in a school and be familiar with how the institution operates.
“The manager needs to know how to manage the material resources he has, the assets that are made available to the school and the employees, and therefore must also be a financial manager”, she stressed.
