Luanda - The annual consumption of fossil fuels in Angola, between 2015 and 2025, went from 1.364 million to 430 million liters per year, representing a decrease of more than 930 million liters.
According to a press release to which ANGOP had access on Thursday, this milestone represents a notable advance in the country's energy transition, driven by the Government's strategic investments in clean and renewable energy sources, with a special focus on strengthening the National Electricity System.
The expansion of renewable production capacity, the document points out, included initiatives of great impact, such as the start-up of the Cambambe Power Plant (2016), the Laúca and Tchiumbwe-Dala Hydroelectric Plants (2017), the interconnection of the North and Center Systems (2019) and the implementation of new solar plants in several provinces of the country.
Currently, Angola has 73 plants in operation, and 91% of the energy consumed in the country is from renewable sources. ACC/QCB/DOJ
