Luanda - Nationalist Isaías Samakuva said on Thursday (17), that preserving peace and reconciliation in a "lasting" way requires the active participation and involvement of young people.

The politician, who was speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a lecture on “The Role of Universities in the Process of Preserving Peace and National Reconciliation”, said that young people are potential actors in political, economic and social change and in the construction of a fair and peaceful world.

According to Isaías Samakuva, young people must understand that there are mistakes from the past that must be overcome and replace them with work aimed at the real unity of Angolans, based on unity and social peace.

“They need to work in a process in which everyone must be deeply involved, without revenge, without looking at party colors or the past, but on the contrary, leaving behind what in the past was the cause of the division of Angolans”, he said.

In turn, the spokesperson for the Association of Advocates for Dialogue and National Reconciliation, Assorreia Neto, the event's promoter, explained that the aim is to raise national awareness, mainly in the academic community, as it plays a key role in maintaining peace and national reconciliation.

Isaías Henriques N'gola Samakuva was born in Cuito, province of Bié, on July 8, 1946, and graduated in sociology and theology.

His background also includes diplomacy, military and political life.

He was president of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), the Angola largest opposition party, between 2003 and 2019.
