Luanda - Huawei and the mobile operator Unitel on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding to boost the development of startups in Angola, on the second day of the 4th edition of Angola International Technology Forum (ANGOTIC-2024).
Signed by Huawei's executive director in Angola, António Qiang, and Unitel's general director, Miguel Geraldes, the deal will benefit the 10 most awarded by UNITEL at the Angola Startup Summit 2024, an event dedicated to entrepreneurs, investors, business leaders, students and public institutions.
António Qiang said Huawei is a long-term partner of Unitel, which is why the company is delighted to take part in this program to continue to expand the network and to offer startups the digital devices they need to carry out their projects".
He also said that most of the investments for this memorandum will be made through the delivery of handsets and digital platforms, to be offered to the winning startups.
"In the future we're going to work with Unitel Money to see what micro-financing we can offer the startups together," the Huawei representative said.
The Chinese company representative said the protocol lays the foundations for comprehensive cooperation and opens up opportunities for joint progress in the Angolan telecommunications sector.
Miguel Geraldes on his turn emphasized that all the winning startups will receive tablets, computers and communications services from Unitel for a year.
"With this, we want to help them develop their applications, with a focus on software," he added.
ANGOTIC 2024 is Angola's International Information and Communication Technology Forum, which takes place from June 12 to 14 under the slogan "Digitize, Connect and Innovate", and the largest international technology, communications and innovation event promoted by the country’s government.
