Luanda – The taxi drivers were authorized last Friday by the government for a maximum vehicle capacity as from this Saturday to guarantee the population mobility.
The measure came after a meeting between the members of the Multisectorial Commission on Prevention and Fight of the Covid-19 Pandemic and the representatives of the Angolan taxi drivers association.
The government had determined the crowding of just 50 per cent of the public and private collective transports as one of the measures to fight the spread of the covid-19.
However, the taxi drivers claimed that they are being under penalty by the authorities comparing to other transport operators even despite the new Decree (which is in force since 24 December 2021), imposing a maximum of 50 per cent of the collective urban, intercity and interprovincial passenger transport.
Speaking to press at the end of the meeting the coordinator of the commission Francisco Pereira Furtado said that it is a response from the Government due the complaint of the population that was under discussion some days because of the movement difficulties due to the crowding reduction of the taxi service transports.
